TIME TO ACT! Civil Disobedience Training to be Held at Meg Perry Center in Portland and the Addams/Melman House in Bath

May 8 2008 - 6:00pm

Looking for 100 outraged Mainers to participate in a series of sit-ins at Tom Allen’s office, May 12th through May 16th in Portland. We encourage people to consider risking arrest. (Support people will be needed, also.)

Another war appropriations bill is on the horizon. Bush has requested $108 billion and, believe it or not, the Dems have requested another $70 billion in order to fund the occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan well into the new presidency. Can you believe it!! Looks like they don’t want the funding issue mucking up the election. We have made repeated called to Tom Allen’s office asking his aides where he stands on the appropriations bill. He has not responded.

Two meetings are being held to plan the sit-ins and provide Civil Disobedience training. Feel free to come if you’re undecided about participating.

(Many of you may be planning to attend the Tom Lewis Presente! Action on Sat., 9:30 a.m., at Bath Iron Works to protest the christening of another Aegis Destroyer. We’ll see you there.)

Come on! Join us! More than 70% of the country is against this war. Let’s be a force that can’t be ignored.

We will also discuss nonviolent action to pressure Sen. Snowe and Sen. Collins, following the precedent setting case of a ‘not guilty’ verdict for our friends, a case receiving national attention! (See below) Together, we can Reclaim Maine from legislators who continue to fund this endless war. If you cannot make these meetings but want to be involved, contact us at 207 772 0680 or info [at] peaceactionme [dot] org
