PAM Hosts "Women on War" Photo Exhibit
by Debbie Atwood, Associate Director, PAM
Peace Action Maine is hosting "Women on War," a photography exhibition, at
the 3 Fish Gallery in Portland, through the end of September. The opening
reception, held on August 20th, was very well attended.
Curated by Anne B. Zill, member of the Peace Action Maine Advisory Board and
director of the Center for Ethics in Action, and Kevin Callahan, the exhibit
features the work of artists Ruth Fremson, a New York Times photographer;
Leslie Fratkin, the creator of Sarajevo Self Portrait: The View from Inside;
Maggie Foskett, a fine arts photographer; Katarina Weslien, a new media
artist; Donna Decesare, who has photographed the civil war in El Salvador;
and Barbara Goodbody, whose photo of a Tibetan refugee is featured.
The works include black and white and color photos, and a painting, in a
variety of styles; scenes from current wars face a wall of photos from World
War I. All are expressions of the artists' views of or experience with war
and conflict. They are breathtaking.
Peace Action Maine thanks Ron & Christine Spinella, owners of the 3 Fish
Gallery, for the donation of the gallery space for this show.
Please plan on visiting the 3 Fish Gallery, 377 Cumberland Avenue, Portland,
during regular gallery hours: Thursday-Saturday, 12-6 pm. A number of the
photographs are for sale; for more information, call Peace Action Maine at
772-0680 or the 3 Fish Gallery at 773-4773. Donations are accepted at the
gallery.
