H.O.M.E.'s St. Francis Press Publishes First Book

"EL VALLE and Other Jessica Stories about Growing Up in PANAMA," by Karen Saum of Orland, is a collection of 13 short stories about growing up as a colonial child.

The first stories reflect a child's naivete, then how she begins to understand the social forces that will shape her life, her first reluctant participation in the web of lies and deceit of colonial society, and finally her full support of that system.

The book is the first product of the St. Francis Press of H.O.M.E. Co-op to be registered with Bowkers, to appear in Books in Print, and to have an ISBN number as well as a Library of Congress number.

St. Francis Press hopes that by having this framework for distribution, other writers will be motivated to start a publishing cooperative. EL VALLE is available at Mr. Paperback throughout the state.
