The Second Annual Portland Peace Festival is planning for thousands of participants at this year’s Festival. The Portland Peace Fest will take place on the East End Prom, July 12th, from 1-4 PM, with a rain date of Sunday, July 13th. In 2007, over 1500 participants helped to make the 1st Portland Peace Fest a huge success. In 2008, participants will be invited to bring their families and friends and join in a variety of activities. Local artists, businesses and non profits will be tabling and in attendance, and people will be invited to take part in yoga, children’s activities, face painting and the making of a human peace symbol on the promenade.

The Portland Peace Festival will also feature the well known band, Miss Fairchild, who has recently been featured on MTV and has been touring nationally. “The Portland Peace Festival is one of the reasons I am proud to live in Portland,” stated Danny Muller, Director of Peace Action Maine. ” With support and involvement from our city council reps, local artists, our neighbors on Munjoy Hill and local businesses, The Portland Peace Festival embodies how this city works to build community and create a more just and peaceful world.”

The Festival is coordinated entirely by volunteers and residents of Portland, and this year food and refreshments will be sold by Local Sprouts Cooperative Catering, with the proceeds going to help support a local school lunch program for Portland students this summer.
