WHAT
The Maine Citizen Trade Policy Commission, the Water Resources Planning Committee, and the Attorney General’s office are taking testimony on the potential impact of trade
agreements on Maine citizens ability to govern our groundwater.
Specifically, the hearing will focus on:
●whether or not Maine’s groundwater ownership law and its power to govern groundwater could be compromised by international trade agreements
● what should be done to mitigate any negative impacts.
Testimony about groundwater regulatory issues or the status of Maine’s groundwater resource is not the purpose of this public hearing and oral testimony on these topics will not be permitted. However, written testimony (15 copies) regarding these issues may be left with the Commission to be given to the Joint Standing Committee on Natural Resources for review.
