Peace Fair to be Held on the Mall in Brunswick, Maine

The Fair will open at 10 a.m. with a reading of “Sadako and the Thousand Cranes” by director of the Theater Project Al Miller and a friend.

Activities for children and adults include everything from assessing your environmental footprint to receiving a gift of a tree seedling to be planted for peace, to face painting and craft projects with Jaime Silvestri and the Art Van, Marji Greenhut, creating peace t-shirts, Chake Higgison designing Tibetan prayer flags and portraits for peace with Charlotte Agell, Pat Cannon singing with children starting at 11:00, Conversation Cafe: “Children of War — how do we move forward?”, “Food — the challenges and joys of buying local”, “Young People’s Conversation — what kind of future will we build?”, “Moving Beyond Despair — can activism help”

Non-Profit Community Groups will provide information and activities for all to share

At 11 a.m. Pat Cannon will lead children in musical fun.

From noon to 1:30 p.m the musical groups Tao Joans, Mountain Avenue, and Rustic Overtones will entertain.

Four moderated conversations are scheduled throughout the day on topics pertinent to PeaceWorks’ concerns such as: what does war do to children; how to feed our families with less dependence on petroleum for transportation, fertilizer and pesticides; how can activism help get us beyond despair, and young people looking at what kind of future they want to build. Among the participants will be survivors of World War II and members of the Somali community.

Horch Sustainable Goods; Global Network Against Weapons & Nuclear Power in Space; Maine Campaign for a U.S. Dept. of Peace & Nonviolence; Maine Green Independent Party; Maine Women’s International League for Peace & Freedom; Maine Veterans for Peace; Military Families Speak Out; Natural Resources Council of Maine; Open Heart Sangha; Peace Action Maine; PeaceWorks; St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church & Pax Christi Maine; Sierra Club, Maine Chapter; SGDI-USA — Buddhist world peace organization; STTAR Services: information on Somali refugee acculturation services; United Methodist Church Brunswick — Social Justice Committee; United Nations Association of Maine; Unitarian Universalist Church of Brunswick — Social Justice Committee; and Working Villages International.

The Peace Fair will close at 3:45 with a gathering of visitors and presenters lifting up and celebrating the energy generated that day.
