“Reimagining Globalism: Maine in the World’s Economy” Panel Bates College, Wed. Jan. 16th, 7:30 pm
I wanted to extend a special invitation to you to attend the Harward Center’s Civic Forum on Wednesday, January 16th entitled “Reimagining Globalism: Maine in the World’s Economy.” The panel, which will start at 7:30 pm in the Muskie Archives, will consist of Matt Schlobohm ‘00, Public Policy and Political Mobilization Director of the Maine AFL-CIO and the founder of the Maine Fair Trade Campaign; Peter Riggs, Executive Director of the Forum on Democracy and Trade, which works with state and local governments to ensure that international trade agreements support local decision-making and economic innovation; Charles Lawton, Senior Economist with Planning Decisions, Inc. and author of the report commissioned by the Maine State Legislature on the impact of NAFTA on Maine; and Cathy Lee, Managing Director of Lee International, which focuses on the international trading of greenhouse gas emissions, and former Chair of the Board for the Maine International Trade Center.
The Civic Forum is a lively series that invites the audience to wrestle with and explore civic, political and policy issues of significance to the Bates community, Maine, and beyond. We are pleased to offer such a diverse and talented panel to speak on issues surrounding trade. We hope very much that you will be able to attend on the 16th and that you will encourage others to attend as well. The event is free and open to the public.
If there are questions about the program, please contact Kristen Cloutier kcloutie [at] bates [dot] edu or at 207-786-6202 at the Harward Center.
The panel will be held at the Edmund S. Muskie Archives, one building from the intersection of Campus St. and Central Ave.
We hope to see you there!
