The Call: As US citizens, we acknowledge the escalating violence in our own culture and around the world and its destructive effects on our children, families, communities, health, the environment, and upon human dignity. We see national rejection of progress that was being made toward reducing reliance on nuclear weapons. We see use of the September 11 tragedy to increase military might at the expenses of needed social, educational, environmental, and other programs. We oppose military responses to political and economic problems. We want to find personal, spiritual, economic, and social alternatives to this pattern.
Individuals, groups, and organizations across the state of Maine are invited to join together to plan, endorse, and participate in this important rally. The date, October 26, marks the one-year anniversary of the signing of the USA PATRIOT Act, which limits many civil rights and basic freedoms in the name of stopping terrorism.
Rally will be held rain or shine, whether the invasion has happened yet, or not.

If you would like to download the flyer for printing and posting, use this link. Its a pdf file at 290k.

The image on the left can be downloaded as a PDF file and printed. It comes from National Peace Action and they say it is 11 by 17 inches but Adobe Acrobat re-sized it to print well on a 8.5 by 11 piece of paper, for me. It should open in a new browser window.

Transportation/Carpooling
People going to the October 26th rally in Augusta (from Portland area) should gather at the parking area across from the Whole Grocer and next to the skateboard park on
Marginal Way at 10:00am It would be great to have a feeling of solidarity
when we leave Portland. We can caravan to Augusta!. Most importantly,
this will be the place for people to hook up for transportation. There may
be many folks who need rides so if you are driving and have empty spaces,
come and carpool.

available. If you have any questions or just to let us know that you will
be needing a ride, please call Marga Huntington, transportation coordinator,
