On Monday evening, April 14, at 6:30 pm the Freeport Community Library, 10 Library Drive, Freeport, ME 04032 (207) 865-3307, will host a presentation by Mariam Raqib, Political Science professor at Wells College, New York City and Simmons College, Boston.
As a young girl of four, Mariam and her family fled Afghanistan when it was invaded by the former Soviet Union. Living for a time in Pakistan before immigrating to the United States, Mariam was inspired by her uncle’s work as a physician and organizer of services to fellow refugees.
Since 2001 Mariam has returned to her homeland numerous times to work with the women and children there.
In addition to sharing her experiences with us she will also be introducing her newly founded non-profit organization Afghanistan-Samsootya. We believe the evening will be a unique opportunity to hear this vibrant young humanitarian and activist’s personal, first-hand account of life past and present in Afghanistan.
We hope you are able to join us!
