War Flowers was a call for art to enlist the creative vision of artists to provide a visual fashioning of the concept of economic conversion. What would a shift from a military economy to a sustainable peace economy look like?

The results were a broad variety of depictions: political, allegorical, personal, symbolic, literal, emotional, and humorous.

Through this exhibit we bring to you the many facets of the initiative through the work and vision of Maine artists.

Natasha Mayers, exhibit organizer says:

"It is important to recognize the power each of us possesses to promote awareness and to activate momentum for change. Art, in its various forms, can be the catalyst for a mass shift in consciousness. The work of art can be a call to responsibility, a vehicle to incite social transformation. It can be educational or contemplative, playful, satirical, and/or transformative. Artists are the alchemists who can turn swords into plowshares. They can challenge us with their with and humor, reinvent language and help us imagine something else."
