Peace Action Maine and the Social Action Committee of the Allen Avenue
Unitarian Universalist Church will host a Peace Concert on Wednesday, March
17th, at the St. Lawrence Arts and Community Center on Congress Street in
Portland. The show will begin at 7pm. Tickets cost $10.
Ethan Miller is a folksinger/songwriter, a popular educator, organizer,
independent writer and researcher. Though he started writing music at 17 (in
'93), it was not until 2000 amidst the arrival of global movements against
neoliberal globalization that he truly found his voice as a songwriter and
performer, bringing together his political passions with his love for music
and writing. Since then, he has played at numerous events and rallies and
has shared the performance stage with David Rovics, Jim Page, Charlie King
and Karen Brandow.
For the past five years, Ethan has been organizing with anti-capitalist,
anti-authoritarian, solidarity-based movements in Maine and beyond. He now
lives and works at the JED Center, a collective and community space that
supports and organizes projects of radical social, economic, and ecological
change at both a local and global level.
He released his first album of original music, In Times of War, available
through the JED Center, in 2002.
Kate Boverman is a farmer and permaculture landscape designer, a visual
artist, herbal healer, and a skilled builder and craftswoman.
Kate believes that her music comes from the Earth her first inspiration and
audience. Over the past two years, Kate has been finding her voice as a
performer, singing with her partner in love and song, Ethan Miller.
Kate's musical style is a cultivated mixture of folk and soul, with a sweet
tone and a wide vocal range that lends her voice a feeling of freedom. Her
passion is to share songs that encourage social movement and solidarity;
songs that inspire and move an audience into action.
In addition to the performance, Matt Schlobohm, an organizer with the Maine
Fair Trade Campaign, member of the JED collective and volunteer with the
Many & One Coalition, will address the audience. He spends most of his time
building stronger movements for social, economic, environmental, and racial
justice.
