Support the Campaign to Stop Killer Coke
"Because I love life, I won't drink Coca Cola" is a slogan adopted by the
Campaign to Stop Killer Coke. The campaign was initiated by SINALTRAINAL,
which represents 2300 Colombian food and beverage workers. Since 1989, eight
of the union leaders have been assassinated by the Colombian paramilitaries,
who are closely allied with the Coca Cola management. Many more have been
forced to flee for their lives.
Since President Alvaro Uribe came to power last year, 92 trade unionists
have been murdered in Colombia, more than all the union leaders killed in
the rest of the world.
Colombia is one of the largest recipients of U.S. military aid in the world.
There are thousands of U.S. troops and mercentaries stationed there.
According to Teresa Gutierrez of the International Action Center, "Plan
Colombia means billions of U.S. dollars going to fund a war on the
indigenous people, Afro-Colombians, workers and peasants of Colombia, while
millions in the United States go hungry, homeless, jobless, and without
healthcare."
