Take Action on Robust Nuclear Earth Penetrator

Continuing its drive to develop new, more usable nuclear weapons, the Bush Administration has requested increased funding for the Robust Nuclear Earth Penetrator (RNEP) and the Advanced Concepts Initiative for new nuclear weapons. Last year, Congress cut half of the requested funds for the RNEP.

This year—with your help—all funds for both the RNEP and the Advanced Concepts Initiative can be eliminated. The Senate should not allow the Administration to develop a new generation of nuclear weapons. The votes of Senators Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins will be key if there is any hope of forging a more sane nuclear weapons policy. We expect a very close vote. We need your help in persuading them to vote against funding these new nuclear weapon systems! Please call, fax, or email Sens. Snowe and Collins. Urge them to support the Kennedy-Feinstein amendment to cut funds for new nuclear weapons from the defense authorization bill (S 2400). Tell them that these weapons will not make the U.S. more secure. In fact, they will make the world more dangerous.

TAKE ACTION NOW: Contacting your senators is easy. You can call Sen. Snowe in Washington, DC, at (202) 224-5344, or fax her at (202) 224-1946. You can call Sen. Collins in Washington, DC, at (202) 224-2523, or fax her at (202) 224-2693.
