Thank You Cynthia McKinney
This issue of Peace Talk would be incomplete without a formal "thank you"
to Representative Cynthia McKinney of Georgia for daring to demand that the
events leading up to September 11 be fully investigated and explored. She
said things that many have thought but none dared to utter publicly.
Speaking from the halls of Congress in March she said: What did
this administration know and when did they know it? Who else knew and why
did they not warn the innocent people of New York who were needlessly
murdered?"
She was mocked and criticized as a "paranoid, America-hating,
crypto-Marxist with conspiratorial delusions." Yet only a month later
headlines revealed that President Bush had been warned by US intelligence
that Osama bin Laden might be plotting to use hijacked planes as missiles
against the United States.
Even Dan Rather has spoken up to say that "patriotism became so strong in
the US that journalists," himself included, "failed to ask the tough
questions" following the attacks of 9/11.
Let us hope that these are signs of a true change in the willingness of
the American people to question US foreign policy and to demand better
solutions than an endless war against anyone who challenges our urge to
global dominance.
We can take small but important steps for change as we support candidates
and vote in the November elections.
