The Maine Coalition
for Peace and Justice Gains Support
"Where do we go from here?" has been the ongoing question
among progressives since the war began in Iraq. A conversation that
began at the Belfast Co-op about setting up a communication network
concerning statewide, national, and global directions for the peace
movement is beginning to look like a reality. The Maine Coalition for
Peace and Justice met for the first time on April 26. Thirty focused
and energized people, representing many of Maine's peace and justice
organizations, assembled to talk about the structure and intention of
this coalition; the necessity for education and outreach; the importance
of working together and of avoiding scheduling conflicts. Most of us
felt that the 2004 presidential election is the most important issue
for us to address. Although an introductory letter and survey is about
to be mailed requesting input and membership, many progressives throughout
Maine have already signed on. For more information contact Tim Sullivan
