At 7:00 pm on Wednesday, June 25th, at the Reversing Falls Sanctuary in Brooksville, Maine there will be an evening with Cynthia McKinney. Well, sort of. The former Congressman from Georgia is seeking the Green Party’s nomination for President and, though she won’t be in Brooksville, noted activist Bruce Gagnon and regional VP of the National Lawyers Guild, Lynne Williams, will and they will speak of the Green Party and McKinney’s candidacy.
The movie, “American Blackout”, winner of the Special Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival, will also be shown. This political documentary chronicles the recurring patterns of black voter disenfranchisement in 2000 and 2004 while following the story of McKinney who took an active role in investigating those elections debacles.
In order to qualify for federal matching funds, McKinney must raise $5000 in each of 20 states. She’s reached that mark in seven states and is half-way to the goal in Maine. Whether you’re a Dem, a Green, an Independent, a Communist, even a Repub you probably have some sense that our country would be better off if it weren’t under the control of our two-party system. You owe it to yourself to learn more about Cynthia McKinney and her campaign. You may even be moved to contribute to the effort after hearing what Gagnon and Williams have to say.
