Give Some Time to End the Occupation of Iraq

May 14 2008 - 12:00pm

We must keep speaking out against the “Emergency Supplemental Bill” that will fund the Iraq occupation into 2009 ($172 billion more). Congress will be voting on the Bill this week.

We’re keeping the pressure on. We sat in Sen. Susan Collins’ office last Thursday in Portland from noon until 5:30 a.m. and we’re going back this Wednesday, May 14th.

We need a lot of people to participate!

There are a number of ways you can be part of the action.

1) Come to the sit-in. We plan to have an on-going presence in Collins’ Portland office for 24 hours. (We’ll stay longer if more people come.) It will begin at noon on Wednesday, May 14. We will meet at the Temple Street entrance of One City Center for a check-in before we go in. You can come for any amount of time, of course, the longer the better. Wouldn’t it be great to have a wave of 40, 50, 60 people in and out of the office. Some of us will refuse to leave at closing time and will stay until morning or until arrested.

If you can stay through the night or risk arrest, please bring food and water and $40 for your bail. We would like for everyone who comes to bring a poem, essay, article that they can share with the group and then leave for Susan Collins.

2)Be part of the education and call-in efforts on the street. We will have a table outside with leaflets. We will also have cell phones available so people on the street can call into Collins’ office. Bring a sign calling on Sen. Collins to vote against further occupation funding. Money for health care not more war.
