Mainers for Cynthia McKinney Formed

A new grassroots group has been created called Mainers for Cynthia McKinney to support the former Georgia Congresswoman?s run for the Green Party presidential nomination. Cynthia McKinney is widely acknowledged, both inside and outside the campaign, as the leading contender to be the Green Party’s top pick.

A fundraising potluck supper is being organized on behalf of the McKinney campaign and will be held in Harpswell at 72 Fire House Road on Sunday, June 15 at 5:00 pm. The public is invited. For more information or directions to the event call Jacqui Deveneau at 934-1911 - please RSVP to her as well.

Local midcoast activist Bruce Gagnon, a Green Party member, will speak at the event on behalf of Cynthia McKinney. Gagnon hosts a local cable TV show called “This Issue” and also belongs to Veterans for Peace. He has long been an associate of McKinney.

Cynthia McKinney has an impressive public record serving two terms in the Georgia Assembly and six terms in the U.S. Congress. Congresswoman McKinney broke with the Democratic Party after their newly elected majority in the House of Representatives failed to end the occupation of Iraq or address the critical social, economic and environmental crises faced by the nation.

A highly acclaimed documentary film titled “American Blackout” was recently released about McKinney’s career and highlights her work to expose voter suppression in black communities, particularly Florida and Ohio, during the last two national elections.

The newly created Mainers for Cynthia McKinney has already begun organizing statewide and intends to build a solid base of support for the candidate. A website has also been created at www.mainers4mckinney.org
