Film "Burning Bridges" Will be Shown at Peace and Justice Group of Waldo County in Belfast, ME

Jun 18 2008 - 6:30pm

You’re Invited!

The monthly Peace and Justice Group of Waldo County film series each third Wednesday will present “Burning Bridges” on June 18. For this program, the location has been changed to the Unitarian-Universalist Church of Belfast, 37 Miller St., and the program begins at 6:30 PM. The focus of the film and program is restorative justice and the Restorative Justice Project of the Midcoast.

“Burning Bridges” is a documentary about the arson of Mood’s Bridge, a historic covered bridge in Buck’s County, Pennsylvania, and the restorative justice conference held in its wake. This emotional conference brought together the six young men, who burned down the bridge, with their families and members of the community. The documentary tells the story of a community moving through grief and anger to healing.

The Staff and Board members of the Restorative Justice Project of the Midcoast will be available following the showing to share what is happening in Waldo and Knox Counties using the restorative justice philosophy.

The event is free and donations are appreciated.

The Peace and Justice Group of Waldo County is sponsoring the showing. For more information, call Larry, 525-7776.

PS The Peace and Justice Group will not meet in July but will meet on the first Tuesday of August. At this point, there are no community forums scheduled for either month (will resume the third Wednesday of September), but that could change. Stay tuned.
