Portland: The Meg Perry Center and the ArtVan Program are teaming up to exhibit artwork from the latest session of the ArtVan’s after-school program at Bath Middle School — AVAX (ArtVan Artists Xtraordinaire). Students worked with visiting artist Katie Kindred, a former ArtVan artist and summer staff, who is currently a senior in creative writing at Wells College. Together, they explored ideas of merging art with the written word, including storytelling. Also on display will be a variety of art from the ArtVan neighborhoods in Bath and Lewiston.

Our state and nation are at a crossroads. The deepening recession has eroded the financial standing and optimism of a majority of Americans, nearly two-thirds of whom say that they have been hurt by the downturn. Hundreds of thousands of jobs have been lost in recent weeks. Meanwhile, globally and locally, we are beginning to experience the looming catastrophic impacts to our health and ecosystems from an environment in climate crisis.
