At MCLU, we are organizing on behalf of Rabbi Moshe Wilansky, who, after a neighbor complained, was told by the city of Portland to cease holding prayer services in his home due to zoning laws. We are holding a rally on Thursday the 21^st at 5:30pm outside city hall to show support for the Rabbi. The hearing before the zoning board will begin at 6:30 in City Council Chambers. I would love it if you could all attend! Also, if it is appropriate, would you mind forwarding the attached action alert to your respective lists?
Eric Hooglund will be on Big Talk on WMPG this Thursday, August 21, 7:30-8PM.

Peninsula Peace & Justice will present “Pete Seeger: Power of Song, the only authorized biography.” Producer/director Jim Brown’s film documents the life of one of the greatest American singer / songwriters of the last century. Largely misunderstood by his critics, including the US government, for his views on peace, unionism, civil rights and ecology, Seeger was targeted by the communist witch hunt of the Fifties. He was picketed, protested, blacklisted, and, in spite of his enormous popularity, banned from American television for more than 17 years.

Synopsis: What does the rest of the world think of U.S. domestic and foreign policy? While the U.S. is perceived as a beacon of democracy, how does it compare to other democratic nations? Americans are continually told through their media that freedom and democracy are supported abroad, but is it true?
