All high school and college-aged peace and environmental activists welcome! This forum hopes to engage the link between peace and environmental issues and provide a space for student peace and environmental activists to gather, network and explore possibilities for greater collaboration, specifically within the upcoming academic year. The forum will be held in Jewett Hall at the University of Maine - Augusta.

Auctioneers say that non-profits organization’s auctions are attended primarily by their members and supporters and the friends they bring with them. People off the street, who aren’t familiar with us and antiques dealers don’t generally go to these benefit types of auctions, so the success of this auction depends on your coming and bringing as many of your friends as you can.

On Monday evening, April 14, at 6:30 pm the Freeport Community Library, 10 Library Drive, Freeport, ME 04032 (207) 865-3307, will host a presentation by Mariam Raqib, Political Science professor at Wells College, New York City and Simmons College, Boston.

As a young girl of four, Mariam and her family fled Afghanistan when it was invaded by the former Soviet Union. Living for a time in Pakistan before immigrating to the United States, Mariam was inspired by her uncle’s work as a physician and organizer of services to fellow refugees.

A torch welcome at Congress Square will be followed by a public walk to City Hall Plaza for a rally with speakers and music. Groups demanding human rights from the Chinese regime will be represented; Tibetans, Christians, Uyghurs, Falun Gong, Darfuris, Burmese, democracy activists, AIDS organizers and more.

On Saturday April 19, 2008, two former Black Panthers will be speaking at the Meg Perry Center about contemporary struggles for racial justice in Louisiana. Malik Rahim and Robert King will speak about their history in the Black Panther Party and its influence on their lives today.

TOM NEILSON, the “Jon Stewart of folk music” who is doing a benefit performance so we can send a bus filled with humanitarian supplies to Cuba. A small bus will leave Portland on June 14 to break the cruel, illegal U.S. blockade against the island nation.
