Demand accountability

To the editor:

We should all be disgusted with the lack of effort that has been made to explain “The Bailout.” We should fear such manipulation.

It is the responsibility of the Congress to understand the elements of The Bailout, to clearly explain to citizens what The Bailout will consist of, and what will prevent it from becoming another failed attempt to fix the greed and lawlessness of our institutions.

It is only reasonable to demand that the Congress delay final approval of any plan until they come back home to face the people who will be saddled with paying for The Bailout.

How can we justify putting our trust in a Congress and an administration that have the most deserved negative public confidence ratings in history and the U.S. Treasury that is made up of the same foxes in the henhouse that have pilfered our pockets and brought us to our knees?

The rush to judgment in this critical matter is strikingly similar to the run up to making war on Iraq. The financial and human costs of that debacle continue today and without an end in sight.

The Congress should finish its deliberations and return to the people to fully explain The Bailout before they vote upon it. The Congress needs to close down the nation for a day of dialogue before the nation is finally closed down by the incompetence and manipulation of the institutions that are charged with protecting and preserving it.

Let’s make them all accountable before Election Day for a change.
