Nation Cruise Passengers and Howard Zinn visit Peace Center
Author and historian Howard Zinn visited Peace Action Maine to participate in a discussion of the role of the peace movement in the current crisis.

On October 24, Peace Action Maine hosted travelers from the Nation
magazine's "Fall Colors" cruise that was sailing from New York to Halifax .
The cruise ship Rotterdam docked in Portland, and 30 passengers walked over
to our offices for lunch and a discussion of the role of the peace movement
in this current crisis.
A happy addition was historian and author Howard Zinn, who joined the
cruise in Portland and who seemed to have a capital time with all of us!
There were nearly as many locals as visitors so our space was very full and
the discussion, led by Greg Field, very lively.
Passengers hailed from many states and brought with them a clear and united
voice: we must find ways to enlist more of our brothers and sisters from the
mainstream and from minority groups and from every walk of life into
activism. Perhaps an action as simple as sharing this copy of PeaceTalk with
a friend can be a way of working toward that goal. At the suggestion of one
of the passengers, many of us walked back to the ship carrying signs that
said "Don't Invade Iraq!" making quite a parade and drawing interested
comments from people on the streets.
