Peace Community Gatherings Planned
After much reflection, PAM has come up with a new name for the program
committee and a plan to hold quarterly meetings in different parts of the
state where we have concentrations of members and friends. The Disarmament
Committee has become the Action Committee, and our quarterly events will be
called Peace Community Gatherings.
Bush's endless wars, cutbacks in social spending, and innumerable other
difficult struggles have taken their toll on all of us. We need not only
demonstrations and conferences to deal with all that is going on, but time
to share with each other, to heal our broken hearts, to inspire each other,
and ultimately to share our ideas and visions for how we can effectively
continue to build a real movement in our state and beyond.
The quarterly plan will be to share a meal together and then sit and share
our fears, joys, and heartfelt feelings with each other. Our hope is that we
can strengthen each other's spirits, share our successes, and alert each
other to upcoming events.
These will not be planning or business meetings. We already have enough of
those. These will be community building meetings. If your community would
like to host one of these quarterly gatherings in the future let Greg or
Debbie at our PAM office know, 772-0860
Please join us for our first such event on January 10, 2004 at the Allen
Avenue UU Church in Portland. It will be a pot luck breakfast from 9:00 am
to noon. Call the PAM office for directions. Come share with us. We hope to
see you there.
