End the Bombing of Afghanistan
Peace Action Resolution
Approved at the National Congress in Austin, Texas - November 10, 2001
Whereas, the bombing campaign against Afghanistan has passed its first full
month and the bombing has recently intensified through use of carpet-bombing
by B-52s and the dropping of cluster bombs; and
Whereas, residences, hospitals, schools, and clearly-marked warehouses of
the International Committee of the Red Cross have been destroyed and many
innocent people killed; and
Whereas, even those who are not killed or injured are subjected to sight and
sound explosions and the resulting fire and smoke; and
Whereas, according to the United Nations and private aid agencies, a great
humanitarian crisis of hunger, inadequate health care and shelter is being
profoundly deepened by the bombing campaign; and
Whereas, the bombing campaign has demonstrably increased the level of
violence in other parts of the world as a reaction to the continuing
devastation of Afghanistan;
Therefore, be it resolved that Peace Action calls for the immediate
cessation of the bombing, including the use of landmines, cancellation of
plans for a ground invasion and a shift of resources in a non-political
manner to address the great humanitarian crisis; and
Be it further resolved that Peace Action calls upon the United States
government to renounce a policy of answering violent crimes against humanity
committed against itself with counter-violence of a similar or more
protracted nature; and
Be It Finally Resolved that copies of this resolution be sent to the
President of the United States, the Secretary of State, the Secretary of
Defense, the chairs of the respective arms services committees in Congress
and published in appropriate Peace Action outlets.
