Collective present Ed Askew with Joshua Burkett, and Big Blood in concert on Monday, January 7, 2008 from 8:30 to 11:00 PM. This is an all-ages event, with a suggested donation of $5-$10. Ed Askew is a legendary outsider folk artist whose first LP, “Ask the Unicorn,” was released in 1969 on the legendary New York underground ESP-DISK label, home to Pearls Before Swine, The Fugs, Sun Ra, The Godz, etc. His second LP, “Little Eyes,” went unreleased in 1970, but has recently been issued on the De Stijl label. Both albums are pinnacles of psychedelic folk music, full of penetrating, yet mystical, lyrics and dominate use of the unusual Tipple (something like a 10 stringed ukulele). Live performances have been rare and far between, so this is certainly a chance not to be missed. Western Massachusetts is the home of multi-instrumentalist and song writer Joshua Burkett. A veteran of The Time of Rivers Festival and long time collaborator with Six Organs of Admittance, Tower Recordings, and Sunburned Hand of the Man to name a few. His new album, “Where’s my hat,” is out on time-lag records early 2008. Joshua will be backing Ed Askew on this tour. Big Blood is the duo of Caleb and Colleen, members of Fire On Fire. Their recent headlining appearance at The Meg Perry Center brought in a full house to the facility. Further information can be found at www.myspace.com/ecaskew.
