Forward & circulate widely! On Wednesday, September 24, LURC finalised their set of recommended alterations for Plum Creek’s North Woods development plan. Unfortunately, these recommendations fail to provide any protection for the land and people of the Moosehead Lake region, and require very few concessions from Plum Creek. This comes as a slap in the face to the widespread outrage expressed over Plum Creek’s plan during the public comment period, when only 6 submissions sent in supported similar recommendations, while 1700 were opposed. Maine Native Forest Network believes LURC must be held accountable for their blatant disregard of the democratic process. We are calling for everyone to phone and/or fax LURC’s office tomorrow (Monday) to express their disappointment and demand explanations for LURC’s decision.
